The never ending saga of itchy legs and feet continues. As usual the makers of Apoquel can not keep the drug in stock to current customers and within a week of not having any, we had sores on our feet and he was tearing his carpal pads.
Apparently, the company decided once it got itself a stockpile that it would be better to fill new orders and increase the number of vets that get Apoquel instead of making sure the vets with dogs currently on the drug have a stockpile to avoid any unnecessary shortage before spreading the drug out. So once again, we have a wonderful shortage.
I have an amazing vet that makes sure Brutus gets his supply as soon as a shipment comes in, which makes me so happy but it also makes me feel guilty for the dogs would might not get a full supply or might not get any at all because of the shortage. The again, Brutus is an extreme case.
Below are some photos of our wrapping and sock routine to protect his sores overnight and his daytime socks to protect those carpal pads. He is a good boy. Today, we are only protecting one pad at night and the rest have begun to heal and he is leaving them alone thanks to his Apoquel.
My hope is that this time next year, his allergy shots will have done their job and he will no longer need the Apoquel. XXXXX crossing fingers.
Til next time!
