Allergy testing here we come.

In a couple of weeks Brutus will get allergy tested finally.  We are excited but until then, he has to stop the coconut oil, flax seed oil and Zyrtec.  Should be a fun 10 days.

Still without Apoquel and it hasn’t been too bad, but his itching has caught up to him on one of his feet.   We were treating it and it was healing nicely, but he has gone south in the last 48 hours and is now getting worse.  That outside toe on his other foot is now swollen for no apparent reason and his lymph node has swollen, so its off the the vet for antibiotics again.  He is also getting crusting bumps on his legs which indicate reaction to infection.  We were so close to healed and in a matter of hours, all hell breaks loose.  Oh well, the life of an allergy dog.

I hadn’t mentioned to you guys before that we started coconut oil.  Still on a low amount for his weight, but we shall see how it helps in the long term.  Will start it back up again after the test.

We are so excited for the allergy testing.  I hope that we get some good answers and that shots help him.  I read a good book recently about itchy dogs and it had lots of good information on natural remedies.  I am all for trying things out to make him more comfortable without added drugs.  I have only tried a few things and they definitely help.  He is highly reactive to allergens so I am inclined to wait until he is testing to add in any other natural remedies, baths, etc.

The book is “Itchy Dogs: A Natural Health Guide for Dogs with Skin Problems” by Julie Massoni

I will update everyone once we get his test results back and let you know how it goes.  Hopefully, this snow will stop and warm weather will arrive so we can get out hiking the trails.

Here is a snapshot of Brutus in winter mode.

Till next time!
