Allergy update

Well,  I have mixed reviews about Brutus being off the Apoquel.

All of the previous foot issues we had been nursing and infected spots on his feet are healed, but his whole body is red and itchy.  The red areas that he has licked so far have stayed just red with only minor hair loss.

He still has that small purple dot on the back foot, but I think it might just stay that way forever since it took almost 6 months to heal.  His foot issues did not begin with the Apoquel, but being on it seemed to greatly increase the time it took for things to heal and caused even the smallest of spots to become infected.

The amount of itchiness he is having right now has thankfully not yet progressed to the pre-Apoquel crusty bumps, but I fear that will not be too far away.  I had forgotten just how bad his itchiness was since we really have not had any whole body itch since he began the drug.  Sometime just touching him can cause his skin to twitch.  He will jump out of a dead sleep to itch whatever body part is itching and I find him crying because the itch is so bad.

So what is worse?  Whole body itch 24-7 with only a slight edge taken off by a daily dose of Zrytec? or the quick infection and slow healing of even the slightest of wound or sore?

Honestly, even-though infections have caused many vet bills and multiple rounds of anti-fungal and antibiotics, I would gladly take that over his constant need to itch.

So I wake up every morning hoping that the vet gets the batch of Apoquel sooner then expected.  That’s all I can do, besides continue to try and make his as comfortable as possible.

We will keep you posted.

Till next time!
