A visit to the vet yesterday, let to an amazing discovery. Once the vet tech and I picked him up and put him on the very scary scale, we were shocked to see that our little man had become a very big boy of a whopping 125 pounds.
Apparently, kangaroo food is high in fat and since he has been fighting hot spots due to allergies on his feet exercise has been minimal. So, here we go again with a round of prednisone and antibiotics to help heal his feet so we can strap on his new boots and start walking again. I will write about his new boots as soon as he has had a chance to try them out for more than 5 minutes. He loves them, so I hope they work out.
In the meantime, the vet said he should drop about 25 pounds. 25 pounds seems like a lot, but apparently his legs are sticks and not thinning down would be bad for his knees, etc. Now, I just thought he was a big boy since his dad was a mastiff after all, but I guess he could stand to loose a few. I can not remember when he last weighed 100 pounds. Has to be at least a year ago. Maybe even before his first birthday.
Oh well, diet it is. 3 cups of food a day and green beans for snacks and filler so he feels full. This soulnds easy, so we shall see how it goes.
How do you think Brutus felt about his little trip to the vet? You tell me….
Till next time!
